A gift registry providing a partial payment option for gift givers (106) and a mandatory and a contingent gift substitution for gift recipients (108). The gift recipient (108) registers any type of gift idea from any store or establishment (110), for any occasion with an associated gift amount in the registry. The registrant is able to name their own gift price by selecting a gift amount not necessarily the same as the retail cost of the gift idea. The gift recipient (108) also indicates whether they will accept a contingent substitute of gift or cash if the system is unable to provide the gift idea at the gift amount. The recipient (108) can also select mandatory substitution of gift or cash which allows the registrant to arrange for automatic gift return and receipt of a cash gift. Gift givers (106) are able to review gift ideas and associated gift amounts and select them.

L'invention concerne un registre de cadeaux qui offre une option de paiement partiel aux individus (106) souhaitant faire don d'un cadeau, mais laisse la possibilité aux individus (108) ayant reçu un cadeau de procéder à un échange obligatoire ou conditionnel. Selon cette invention, le destinataire (108) du cadeau enregistre une idée de cadeau dans un magasin ou une entreprise (110) pour une quelconque occasion, une certaine somme étant associée à ce cadeau dans le registre. Tout individu qui s'enregistre ainsi a ensuite la possibilité de déterminer le montant du cadeau qu'il souhaite recevoir, ce montant n'étant pas nécessairement identique au prix en magasin de ce cadeau. Le destinataire (108) du cadeau indique en outre s'il est prêt à accepter un échange conditionnel ou à percevoir un remboursement en liquide, dans le cas où le système ne pourrait lui proposer de cadeau correspondant au montant susmentionné. Ce destinataire (108) peut par ailleurs choisir quel article sera obligatoirement échangé contre son cadeau ou être remboursé en liquide, ce qui laisse la possibilité à l'individu enregistré de rendre automatiquement le cadeau et d'obtenir un remboursement en liquide. Enfin, un individu (106) souhaitant offrir un cadeau peut passer ses idées en revue et évaluer son budget avant de choisir un cadeau.
