An expandable medical device (10) has a plurality of elongated struts (14) joined together to form a substantially cylindrical device (12) which is expandable from a cylinder having a first diameter to a cylinder having a second diameter. At least one of the plurality of struts includes at least one opening (24, 26) extending at least partially through a thickness of said strut. A beneficial agent is loaded into the opening within the strut in layers to achieve desired temporal release kinetics of the agent. The beneficial agent can be a chemically ablative agent use to create a lesion to treat atrial fibrillation. A wide variety of delivery profiles can be achieved including zero order, pulsatile, increasing, decrease, sinusoidal, and other delivery profiles.

L'invention concerne un dispositif médical expansible (10) comprenant une pluralité d'entretoises (14) de forme allongée, réunies entre elles de manière à former un dispositif sensiblement cylindrique (12) qui, sous la forme d'un cylindre d'un premier diamètre, peut se dilater en un cylindre d'un second diamètre. Au moins une desdites entretoises comporte au moins une ouverture (24, 26) s'étendant au moins partiellement à travers une épaisseur de ladite entretoise. Un agent utile est chargé en couches dans l'ouverture ménagée à l'intérieur de l'entretoise, ce qui permet d'obtenir la cinétique de libération temporelle souhaitée de l'agent. Cet agent utile peut être un agent d'ablation chimique utilisé pour créer une lésion de manière à traiter une fibrillation auriculaire. Une grande variété de profils de libération peut ainsi être obtenue, y compris des profils de libération d'ordre zéro, pulsatile, croissante, décroissante, sinusoïdale ou autres.
