A method for preparing difunctional compounds, e.g. diols, having high enantiomeric purity (compound If) from alpha -hydroxycarboxylic acid esters (compound Id) in an anhydrous medium by a) reducing compound (Id) into compound (If) in an organic solvent medium; b) adding to the reaction medium at least one coreagent which is substituted by at least one and preferably at least two XH or YH radicals, can move compound (If) in the intermediate from a), and has a higher boiling point at normal atmospheric pressure than compound (If); and c) directly distilling the reaction medium to recover said compound (If). The coreagent is pyrocatechol, hydride, NaBH4. The method may be used to prepare an intermediate for chiral synthesis.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation de composés de haute pureté énantiomérique (composé (If), du type diols à partir d'esters d'acides .alpha.-hydroxycarboxyliques (composé Id), caractérisé en ce que, en milieu anhydre: a) on effectue la réduction du composté (Id) en composé (If) dans un milieu solvant organique; b) on ajoute au milieu réactionnel au moins un coréactif: substitué par au moins un radical XH ou YH, de préférence au moins deux, apte à déplacer le composé (If) dans l'intermédiaire issu de l'étape a) précédente, et possédant une température d'ébullition à Patm normale supérieure à celle du composé (If); c) on distille directement le milieu réactionnel de manière à récupérer ce composé (If). Le coréactif est le pyrocatéchol, l'hydrure, le NaBH4. Application: préparation intermédiaire synthèse chirale.
