Systems and methods according to the present invention provide a combination of demodulation and decoding, termed decodulation herein. By using knowledge of known symbols, decoding known symbols first, and then using the information obtained by decoding known symbols to decode unknown symbols, improved performance can be achieved. This technique can also be used to alleviate the conventional 3dB loss suffered systems using differentially coding and modulation as compared to coherent detection systems.

L'invention concerne des sytèmes et des procédés assurant une combinaison de démodulation et décodage, ci-après désignée décodulation. L'utilisation de la connaissance de symboles connus, le décodage de symboles connus tout d'abord, puis l'utilisation des informations obtenues par décodage des symboles connus pour décoder des symboles inconnus ensuite, permet d'améliorer le rendement. Cette technique permet de remédier à la perte de 3dB que présentent traditionnellement bon nombre de systèmes utilisant un codage et une modulation différentiels par rapport aux systèmes de détection cohérents.
