Abstract The present invention relates to a noortopic agent which comprises a derivative of 2-pheny1-3-oxo-2H-1,4-benzothiazine. This noortopic agent is effective for treating diseases accompanied by a lowering of cerebral functions, for instance, cerebral infarction disorders due to ischemia such as transitory cerebral ischemia, brain edema, cerebral disorders due to the after-effect such as cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral disorders due to traumatic injury such as bruise, central nervous degeneration and degerative diseases such as dementia, mental disorders, neurosis and Alzheimer's diseases.
