An electronic hand-held device and software which protects computers and/or vendor software against unauthorized entry. The device comprises single or multiple electronic sensors for receiving transmitted light and/or audio signals and electronic circuitry for decoding the signals and an electronic display for viewing the decoded signals. The device uses software which is installed into the computer to direct transmission of the signals which are transmitted through the computer's monitor and/or speakers. The device's sensors are positioned over the computer's monitor and/or speakers to receive the transmitted light and/or audio signals. The intermittent pattern of the transmitted signals sent by the device's software is decoded and displayed by the device as an alphanumeric pass code to the user. The user inputs or uses the computer's keyboard to enter the device's displayed pass code to gain access into the computer and/or vendor's software. Furthermore, the device's software continually changes the transmitted signals or pass code each time the computer and/or software is started.
