The central portion of the screw according to the invention has a series of segments varying in diameter, typically having a segment located near the screw head with a large diameter, a segment located near the front portion with a small diameter, and intermediate segments tapering in the direction of the segment with the small diameter. A continuous thread extends along the central portion from the screw head to the screw tip where the thread has a substantially uniform outside diameter along the entire length of the central portion. The screw, which is particularly well-suited as a pedicle screw, has improved resistance to tearing, cutting and bending, and, largely independent of bone quality, good hold in bone.

L'invention concerne une vis pédiculaire qui présente un axe central (1), une tête (2), une partie moyenne (3) pourvue d'un filet et une partie avant (4) pourvue d'une pointe (5). La partie moyenne (3) comporte trois différentes sections (31, 32, 33). Le noyau de la section (33) est de forme cylindrique et est raccordé à la partie avant (4). Le noyau de la section (31), qui est raccordé à la tête (2), est de forme cylindrique et son diamètre est plus grand que celui du noyau de la section (33). Le noyau de la section (32) s'étend entre les deux sections (31, 33) et son diamètre diminue en direction de la pointe (5). Les sections (31, 32, 33) de la partie moyenne (3) sont pourvues sur toute leur longueur d'un filet (6), et la partie moyenne (3), qui porte le filet (6) sur toute sa longueur, a un diamètre extérieur (D) sensiblement constant. La partie avant (4), dont le diamètre diminue en direction de la pointe (5), est pourvue d'un filet (8). Cette vis présente une plus grande résistance à l'arrachement, au sectionnement et à la flexion, et offre une bonne prise dans l'os, plus ou moins indépendamment de la qualité de celui-ci.
