A sulfonated aromatic polymer comprising the repeating structural unit of the formula I -O-Ar1(SO3R)n-C(CF3)2-Ar1(SO3R)n-O-Ar2-(X- Ar2)m- (I), in which Ar1 and Ar2 are, independently of one another, divalent aromatic or heteroaromatic radicals which are optionally substituted by one or more monovalent organic groups which are inert under the conditions of use, R is hydrogen, an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal ion or an ammonium ion, n is an integer from 0 to 3, m is 0, 1 or 2 and X is a -CO-, -O-, -C p H2p-, -C p F2p- or -S- group, in which p is an integer from 1 to 10, is described. Membranes with high proton conductivities can be produced from this polymer and are preferably used in fuel cells.

L'invention concerne un polymère aromatique sulfoné contenant l'unité structurelle récurrente de la formule (I): -O-Ar<1>(SO3R)n-C(CF3)2-Ar<1>(SO3R)n-O-Ar<2>-(X-Ar<2>)m-, où Ar<1> et Ar<2> indépendamment l'un de l'autre représentent des restes aromatiques ou hétéroaromatiques bivalents, éventuellement substitués dans certaines conditions d'utilisation par au moins un groupe organique monovalent inerte, R représente de l'hydrogène, un ion alcalin ou alcalino-terreux ou un ion d'ammonium, n vaut un nombre entier de 0 à 3, m vaut 0, 1 ou 2 et X représente un groupe -CO-, -O-, -CpH2p-, -CpF2p- ou -S-, sachant que p est un nombre entier de 1 à 10. Ce polymère permet de produire des membranes ayant une conductivité protonique élevée et pouvant être utilisées, de préférence, dans les piles à combustible.
