The invention is relative to a novel method for the detection of coliforms, which is based on the use of a mixture of amino acids to promote the expression of inducible enzymes, in absence of cell growth. This enzyme- inducing solution can be used for the rapid detection of the enzymes .beta.- glucuronidase and/or .beta.-galactosidase in a very small number of E. coli and/or total coliforms.

L'invention concerne un nouveau procédé de détection de coliformes, basé sur l'utilisation d'un mélange d'aminoacides, en vue de promouvoir l'expression d'enzymes adaptatives, en l'absence de croissance cellulaire. Cette solution d'induction enzymatique peut être utilisée pour la détection rapide des enzymes .beta.-glucuronidase et/ou .beta.-galactosidase dans un très petit nombre de E. coli et/ou de coliformes totaux.
