A method for diagnosing prostate cancer in a mammal is described. Serum from a mammal is provided. PSA is added to this serum, and the amount of ACT-PAS complex formed is measured. It is determined if the mammal has prostate cancer based on the amount of ACT-PSA complex that is formed. An isolated prostate cancer specific form of ACT which is capable of forming a stable complex with PSA is also described.

L'invention concerne un procédé servant à diagnostiquer le cancer de la prostate chez un mammifère et se basant sur le sérum d'un mammifère. On ajoute un antigène spécifique de la prostate (PSA) au sérum et on mesure la quantité du complexe formé, constitué par .alpha.1-antichymotrypsine (ACT) et PSA. On peut déterminer que le mammifère est atteint du cancer de la prostate en fonction de la quantité du complexe ACT-PSA formé. L'invention concerne également une forme isolée d'ACT spécifique du cancer de la prostate et capable de constituer un complexe stable avec PSA.
