A multi mode mobile device with Femto Cell functionality for extending coverage area sets up connections to a wireless wide area network WWAN and establishes a wireless local area network WLAN, authentication of the multi mode mobile device is performed by WWAN and the multi mode mobile device performs access control to the WLAN. Further aspects are handover to better connections to WWAN in case of weak radio link, position determination of multi mode wireless terminal and provision of connection from legacy terminals, not having a WWAN interface, through WLAN to WWAN.
