ABSTRACT A novel chummer or bait distribution system. The system is comprised of a ported tube which slides up and down over a weighted cylinder housing. When the chummer has been lowered to the desired depth, it is pulled upwards slightly so that water pressure on top of the cylinder releases a latch and allows the outer tube to drop by gravity. As the tube drops the resulting water pressure forces the bait to be distributed, via a port, into the surrounding water. Previous chummers were bottom opening; this side opening chummer with weighted base allows for rapid lowering into the water and for bait to be distributed at any desired depth.
