A chemical composition and vaginal sponge for introduction into the vaginal canal. The chemical composition has spermidicidal, bactericidal and virucidal activity, and when introduced into the vaginal canal, e.g. by a vaginal sponge, reduces or prevents the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Preferred compositions include nonoxynol-9 and polyethylene oxide; or, nonoxynol-9 and chlorhexidine digluconate; or, nonoxynol-9, chlorhexidine digluconate, and polyethylene oxide.
L'invention concerne une composition chimique et une éponge vaginale destinée à être utilisée pour injecter la composition par voie vaginale. Cette composition a un pouvoir spermicide, bactéricide et virocide. Une fois injectée par voie vaginale, par exemple au moyen de l'éponge susmentionnée, la composition réduit ou supprime les risques de maladies sexuellement transmissibles. De préférence, la composition renferme du nonoxynol-9 et du poly(éthylène oxyde); ou du nonoxynol-9 et du digluconate de chlorhexidine; ou du nonoxynol-9, du digluconate de chlorhexidine, et du poly(éthylène oxyde).
