A novel gene 08P1D4 (also designated STEAP-l) and its encoded protein, and variants thereof, are described wherein STEAP-l exhibits tissue specific expression in normal adult tissue, and is aberrantly expressed in the cancers listed in Table I. Consequently, STEAP-l provides a diagnostic, prognostic, prophylactic and/or therapeutic target for cancer, The STEAP-l gene or fragment thereof, or its encoded protein, or variants thereof, or a fragment thereof, can be used to elicit a humoral or cellular immune response; antibodies or T cells reactive with STEAP-l can be used in active or passive immunization.

L'invention concerne un nouveau gène 08P1D4 (également désigné par STEAP-1) et sa protéine codée, ainsi que des variants de ces derniers. STEAP-1 possède une expression à spécificité tissulaire dans les tissus adultes normaux, et une expression aberrante dans les cancers répertoriés dans le Tableau 1. Par conséquent, STEAP-1 constitue une cible diagnostique, pronostique, prophylactique et/ou thérapeutique du cancer. Le gène STEAP-1 ou son fragment, ou sa protéine codée, ou leurs variants, ou un fragment de ces derniers, peuvent être utilisés afin de provoquer une réponse immunitaire humorale ou cellulaire. Des anticorps ou des lymphocytes T qui réagissent au gène STEAP-1 peuvent être utilisés dans l'immunisation active ou passive.
