A ground fault protection device for monitoring and controlling the flow of electricity from a source to an electrical apparatus includes an enclosure, having an opening therein, a disconnect assembly having a disconnect key and a disconnect base, wherein, in an operating configuration, the disconnect key is inserted through the opening of the enclosure to establish electric contact with the base of the disconnect assembly, wherein the disconnect key is accessible from the exterior of the enclosure and wherein the flow of electricity from the source to the equipment can be interrupted by separating the disconnect key from the disconnect base. The ground fault protection device includes a ground fault current interrupter for sensing an interrupt condition and a contactor for interrupting the flow of electricity when the ground fault current interrupter senses the interrupt condition. An alarm system is electrically connected to the contactor and activated upon the occurrence of the interrupt condition.
