- 20 - ABSTRACT Single measurement method, and device, for displaying and rating the linearity of a transmission system The single measurement method allowing the displaying and the rating of the linearity due to the nonlinearities in a system for transmitting a modulated wave with maximum peak level Nc and with maximum frequency band [F1, F2] consists in transmitting a composite signal comprising a signal with carrier frequency close to one of the ends of the band, modulated by a low-frequency signal with level varying between 0 and the peak level, and two signals with carrier frequencies situated at the other end of the band and distanced from one another by an intercarrier frequency, and in detecting and observing the possible presence of the signal at the intercarrier frequency at the output of the system depending on the variation in level of the signal to be transmitted. Linearity is obtained when the signal at the intercarrier frequency is zero (or less than a predetermined value) regardless of the level of the signal to be transmitted in the space ¦0,¦Nc¦¦. The invention applies to all fields in which linearity is required of transmission systems and is "compatible" with "analoguel" or "digital" video frequency baseband television transmission.
