ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Raw sewage containing undissolved material in the form of detritus, dissolved inorganic material and dissolved organic material is treated to remove the volume of detritus that must be disposed of. The raw sewage is passed into a container where the detritus is removed by gravity or centrifugal means. The detritus is incinerated in order to remove volatile com- ponents such as water from it.
