ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a thickening composition that is made by preblending a diluent and a thickener. The diluent- thickener blend is used to incorporate urethane thickeners having branched and terminal hydrophobes which contain a total of at least 36 carbon atoms into aqueous systems, including latex paints. By preblending the thickener with a diluent, properties such as viscosity, sag resistance and thickening efficiency are realized.
