The invention relates to structures for representing images by directing light at a viewer. In order to represent an image, a structure is provided comprising a plurality of tile elements (22) which, when illuminated by a light source, each direct an amount of light toward an observer at a viewing location dependent on their orientation angles. The orientation angles of each tile element (22) may be selected based on a visual characteristic of a corresponding pixel of the image, such that the observer sees a representation of that image created by the varying amount of light directed to the viewing location by the tile elements (22).
L'invention concerne des structures permettant de représenter des images, consistant à orienter une lumière vers un observateur. Pour représenter une image, on utilise une structure comprenant une pluralité de pavés (22) qui, lorsqu'ils sont éclairés par une source lumineuse, renvoient un certaine quantité de lumière, en fonction de leurs angles d'orientation respectifs, vers un observateur situé à un emplacement d'observation. Les angles d'orientation des pavés (22) peuvent être sélectionnés sur la base d'une caractéristique visuelle d'un pixel correspondant de l'image. L'observateur voit ainsi une représentation de cette image, créée par les variations d'intensité de la lumière dirigée par les pavés (22) vers l'emplacement d'observation.
