ABSTRACT A method of and an apparatus for the continuous production of metal strips of substantially final dimensions are disclosed. The molten metal is cast and solidified on an endless, advancing cooling strip. In order to obtain a thoroughly laminar discharge of the molten metal onto the cooling strip, the molten metal flows from a distributer through a duct, of substantially rectangular cross-section with a small cross-sectional height in relation to its cross-sectional width, connected to the distributer. The duct is downwardly inclined in the direction of flow of the molten metal and opens into a casting opening above the cooling strip. The speed of the outflowing molten metal is regulated by employing an electromotive force opposed to the gravitational force to retard the molten metal flowing in the duct.
