The identification of differentially expressed microRNAs in patients with Sjögren's syndrome is disclosed herein. Provided is a method of diagnosing a subject as having Sjögren's syndrome by measuring the level of at least one differentially expressed miR gene product identified herein. An alteration in the level of the at least one miR gene product in the biological sample of the subject relative to a control indicates the subject has Sjögren's syndrome. Also provided is a method of treating a patient with Sjögren' s syndrome by administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that inhibits expression of a miR gene product that is up-regulated in the patient with Sjögren's syndrome relative to a control, or by administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of an isolated miR gene product that is down-regulated in the patient with Sjögren's syndrome relative to a control A method of restoring salivary flow in a patient with Sjögren' s syndrome is also provided.
Cette invention concerne l'identification de micro-ARN d'expression différentielle chez les patients atteints du syndrome de Sjögren. L'invention concerne une méthode de diagnostic d'un sujet atteint du syndrome de Sjögren en mesurant le taux d'au moins un produit génétique micro-ARN d'expression différentielle identifié dans l'invention. Une modification du taux dudit produit génétique du micro-ARN dans l'échantillon biologique prélevé chez le sujet par rapport à un témoin est indicatrice du syndrome de Sjögren chez le sujet. L'invention concerne également une méthode de traitement d'un patient atteint du syndrome de Sjögren en administrant audit patient une quantité thérapeutiquement efficace d'un agent qui inhibe l'expression d'un produit génétique de micro-ARN régulé à la hausse chez le patient par rapport à un témoin, ou en administrant audit patient une quantité thérapeutiquement efficace d'un produit génétique micro-ARN isolé qui est régulé à la baisse chez le patient atteint du syndrome de Sjögren par rapport à un témoin. L'invention concerne également une méthode permettant de restaurer le flux salivaire chez le patient atteint du syndrome de Sjögren.
