FORM 24 (ss. 21, 31, 34 and 142) ABSTRACT In the care of critically ill premature and neonatal infants, the method of choice for administering intravenous fluids and medications is through a catheter inserted into a vein in the infant's scalp. In this invention, a transparent plastic dome is secured to the infant's scalp by means of an adhesive rim to protect the intravenous catheter from damage or disruption when the infant moves or is handled. A small rubber flange along the edge of the dome secures the tubing of the intravenous system to the scalp of the infant. The dome is molded to fit the curvature of an infant's head, and the adhesive plastic rim enables the dome to be removed with ease and safety while making routine adjustments and after use.
