Composition cosmétique pour le premier temps d'une opération de déformation permanente des cheveux. Cette composition contient, dans un véhicule cosmétique approprié, en tant qu'agent réducteur, au moins un amino mercaptoalkylamide ayant la formule générale suivante : (voir formule I) dans laquelle : A représente le radical divalent ~CH2~, n étant un nombre entier compris entre 2 et 5, ou le radical divalent ~CH2)2-O-(CH2~ m est 0 ou un nombre entier compris entre 1 et 4, (i) lorsque m est 0, R1 représente un atome d'hydrogène, un radical méthyle, un radical éthyle, un radical isopropyle, un radical isobutyle, un radical méthyl-2-butyle, un radical benzyle, un radical amino-4 butyle, un radical guanidino-3 propyle, un radical méthylthio-2 éthyle, un radical carboxyméthyle ou un radical carboxy-2 éthyle, ii) lorsque m est un nombre entier de 1 à 4, R1 représente un atome d'hydrogène ou un radical alkyle inférieur ayant de 1 à 5 atomes de carbone, et les sels desdits composés de formule (I).
