Novel testis-specific genes and encoded proteins (PTANs) are described. PTANs are over-expressed in prostate cancer. The nucleotide and amino acid sequences of three distinct PTAN isoforms, designated PTAN-1, PTAN-2 and PTAN-3 are provided. The PTANs show no homology to any known gene. The testis-specific expression profile of PTAN in normal adult tissues, combined with the over- expression observed in prostate tumor xenografts, suggests that PTAN may be aberrantly over-expressed in at least some prostate cancers, and thus may be a useful diagnostic and/or therapeutic target for prostate cancers.
L'invention concerne de nouveaux gènes et de nouvelles protéines encodées (PTAN) spécifiques des testicules, protéines que l'on retrouve en excès dans le cancer de la prostate. L'invention concerne également des séquences de nucléotides et d'acides aminés de trois isoformes PTAN distinctes, désignées par PTAN-1, PTAN-2 et PTAN-3. Les protéines PTAN ne présentent aucune homologie avec des gènes connus. Le profil d'expression spécifique des testicules des protéines PTAN dans les tissus adultes normaux, combiné à l'excès observé dans des xénogreffes de tumeur de la prostate, suggère que les protéines PTAN peuvent se trouver anormalement en excès dans au moins certains cancers de la prostate et peuvent donc constituer une cible diagnostique ou thérapeutique utile pour des cancers de la prostate.
