Patent

CA 2158383

An air cycle conditioning system which in one mode of operation delivers a flow of low temperature air for cooling an enclosure and in another mode of operation delivers a flow of high temperature air for heating the enclosure, comprises primary heat exchanger having first air flow passages disposed in heat exchange relationship with second air flow passages, an air compressor connected for supplying air to the first airflow passages, an air expansion turbine connected for receiving air from the first airflow passages, an inlet duct connected for supplying air to the second airflow passages, an outlet duct connected for receiving air from the second airflow passages, a first airflow directional control valve connected with an outlet from the turbine means and second airflow directional control valve connected with the outlet duct, the first valve being movable between a position in which the turbine outlet is communicated with the enclosure in the cooling mode and a position in which the turbine outlet is communicated with ambient atmosphere in the heating mode, and the second valve being movable between a position in which the outlet duct is communicated with ambient atmosphere in the cooling mode and a position in which the outlet duct is communicated with the enclosure in the heating mode.
