A method and apparatus for the aerosol administration of medication. The method comprises the steps of inserting an endotracheal tube into the trachea of a patient, establishing an air flow through the endotracheal tube, and injecting medication into the air flow inside the endotracheal tube in an aerosol form. The apparatus comprises an improved endotracheal tube (20) adapted for the aerosol administration of medication, the endotracheal tube having an aerosol medication lumen (38), having proximal (40) and distal (32) ends, and extending along at least a portion of the endotracheal tube (20). A nozzle (52) is located at the distal end (32) of the lumen (38), inside the endotracheal tube (20), but adjacent its distal end. A connector (54) is located at the proximal end (40) of the lumen (38) to a connect the lumen to a supply of aerosol medication (58), to dispense the medication in aerosol form from the nozzle (52) in the endotracheal tube.
