A lacing system for footwear of the type having two flaps with standard eyelets for laces, and especially suitable for conventional children's skate boots. The system uses a single lace and comprises a series of anchor loops attached to each flap, each being formed by one of two inner portions of the single lace, with the inner lace portions passing alternately inwardly and outwardly through adjacent ones of the eyelets to form loops inside and outside the flaps with the outside loops providing the anchor loops. Connecting loops formed by outer portions of the single lace connect each anchor loop of one flap with the next upper or lower anchor loop of the opposed flap, the connecting loops criss-crossing each other to form a series of loops connecting together the flaps, the outer portions terminating in end portions capable of securement to each other.
