The surface inspection system has a scanning head for scanning the laser bearn along a predetermined scan line across the surface of an article. A collector receives the light reflected from the article surface along the scan line. The collector has a first miror positioned for receiving light reflected from the article surface, a second mirror oriented with respect to the first mirror to receive light reflected from the first mirror, and the first and second mirrors being configured and oriented so as to concentrate the reflected light from a line into a spot. A photodetector is positioned receiving the thus formed spot of light. The method of inspecting the surface of an article includes the steps of scanning a laser beam along a predetermined scan line across the surface of the article, collectively receiving the light reflected from the article surface along the scan line with a plurality of mirrors so as to concentrate the reflected light from a line into a spot.
Le système d'inspection de surface selon l'invention se compose d'une tête de balayage qui déplace par balayage le rayon laser sur la surface d'un article en suivant une certaine ligne de balayage. Un collecteur reçoit la lumière réfléchie par la surface de l'article le long de la ligne de balayage. Le collecteur est constitué d'un premier miroir positionné de manière à recevoir la lumière réfléchie par la surface de l'article, d'un deuxième miroir orienté par rapport audit premier miroir de manière à recevoir la lumière réfléchie par le premier miroir, les premier et deuxième miroirs étant configurés et orientés de manière à concentrer en un point la lumière réfléchie par une ligne. Un photodétecteur est positionné de manière à recevoir le point de lumière ainsi formé. Le procédé d'inspection de la surface d'un article consiste à déplacer par balayage un rayon laser le long d'une ligne de balayage prédéterminée sur la surface de l'article, à collecter de manière collective la lumière réfléchie par la surface de l'article le long d'une ligne de balayage à l'aide d'une pluralité de miroirs de manière à concentrer en un point la lumière réfléchie à partir d'une ligne.
