The present invention provides compounds, compositions and methods for promoting bone growth. Compounds useful in the methods of the present invention include compounds of Formula I. In Formula I, R1 and R2 are each H or C1-6 alkyl. X is C1-6 alkylene. R3 is H, -OR4, OC(O)R4, OC(O)NR4R5, OC(O)OR4, OP(O)(OR4)2 or OC(O)(CH2)2C(O)OH. R4 and R5 are each independently H or C1-20 alkyl. The compounds also include salts, hydrates and isomers of the compounds.
