A surgical stapling apparatus having a housing and a handle movable through an actuation stroke. An elongated body extends distally from the housing and defines a longitudinal axis. An actuation shaft mounted for longitudinal movement within the housing in response to handle movement through the actuation stroke. A loading unit including a proximal housing portion and a distal tool assembly is supported on a distal end of the elongated body. The proximal housing portion has a longitudinal axis coincident with the longitudinal axis of the elongated body and a first articulation link operatively connected to the distal tool assembly. The distal tool assembly is pivotably secured to the proximal housing portion. An articulation mechanism includes a lever operatively connected to a cam member, connected to the first articulation link wherein the lever articulates the tool assembly relative to the longitudinal axis of the proximal housing portion.
