A method of screening a drug capable of inhibiting the expression of an OSF-2 gene or the production or function of the protein, and remedies for heart failure having these effects are provided. By monitoring the expression and variation of the above gene or the production of the protein, a useful method of diagnosing heart failure can be provided. Moreover, a transgenic animal in which the OSF-2 gene is forcedly expressed, and a method of examining changes in the gene expression or the protein production in association with the progress of the pathological conditions of heart failure or the functions of various genes or proteins by using such a transgenic animal are provided.

Cette invention, qui a trait à une méthode de criblage d'un médicament capable d'inhiber l'expression du gène OSF-2 ou la production ou la fonction de la protéine, concerne également des médicaments contre les défaillances cardiaques dotés de cette action. La surveillance de l'expression du gène susmentionné ou des modifications qu'il subit ou bien la surveillance de la production de la protéine constitue une méthode diagnostique des plus utile en matière de défaillance cardiaque. L'invention, qui porte, en outre, sur un animal transgénique chez qui l'expression du gène OSF-2 a été forcée, concerne également une technique d'examen des modifications survenues dans l'expression du gène ou dans la production de la protéine et ce, en association avec l'évolution des conditions pathologiques d'une défaillance cardiaque, ainsi qu'une technique d'examen des fonctions de différents gènes ou protéines et ce, grâce à l'utilisation de cet animal transgénique.
