ABSTRACT A plate bending machine (1) is described, which has an optionally pivotable, sword-shaped, upper punch (10), which can be moved up and down at right angles to the plate plane relative to a frame (2) and which is faced by two web-like lower punches (19, 20), which are pivotable about a common axis in the vicinity of the bend of the plate (18) relative to the upper punch (10) and for pivoting the punches a pivoting mechanism (24) is provided and in its working position on bending moved up to the surface of the plate (18) to be bent, the upper punch (10) forms a stationary counter- punch about which the plate (18) is bent by means of the lower punches (19, 20).
