A machine for strapping compressible packaged goods in particular, for example corrugated cardboard, by means of strap-like material for strapping with a supply unit, at least one vertically aligned guidance frame, a pressing plate for compressing the packaged goods, strapping material feeder runners for tightening the strapping material around the packaged goods, a closure aggregate for ending the strapping material which has been tightened around the packaged goods, a storage unit for expostulation of an amount of strapping material for the closure aggregate, a strapping material feeder, a strapping material insertion device between the supply unit and the feeder, and the strapping material feeder and a guidance structure between the supply unit and the closure aggregate, whereby the closure aggregate is vertically aligned with the pressing plate and manoeuvrable, whilst the supply unit is located within close proximity of the ground at the side to the exterior of the strapping are and the pressing plate, the strapping material guidance structure consists of one canal-like transfer line leading at least to the closure aggregate, and the insertion mechanism is accessible from the exterior of the machine, to which the supply unit is aligned, and which is attached to a lower section of a guidance canal which stretches up vertically alongside a post of the strapping material frame, is led along a strapping material deflection mechanism for the strapping material to be fed synchronically to the transfer line with the pressing plate adjustable for height and the automatically opening strapping material guidance canal displays a means of canal closure on the side facing the strapping area by means of the movement of the deflection mechanism. The invention has an insertion mechanism that incorporates feeder and runners at the same time, and the storage unit which is adjacent to the supply unit and aligned within close proximity of the ground on the side to the exterior of the strapping area. Almost all operational faults caused by the strapping material are avoided in this way, without the pressing plate having to be mounted by technicians or the pressing plate having to be lowered.
