A system (400, 500) and method (100, 1000) are provided for generating a three- dimensional visualization image of an object such asan organ (300) using volume visualization techniques and exploring the image using a guided navigation system (416) that allows the operator to travel along a flight path and to adjust the view to a particular portion of the image of interest in order, for example, to identify polyps, cysts or other abnormal features in the visualized organ; where imaging data sets are acquired using conventional two-dimensional scans of the object in both a supine and prone orientation, and correspondence between the respective data sets is determined to permit jumping from one visualization orientation to the other while remaining at the same virtual location within the organ.

L'invention concerne un système (400, 500) et un procédé (100, 1000) permettant de générer une image de visualisation tridimensionnelle d'un objet, par exemple un organe (300), qui consistent à utiliser des techniques de visualisation des volumes et à explorer l'image au moyen d'un système de navigation guidé (416); l'opérateur peut ainsi naviguer le long d'une trajectoire de vol et régler la visualisation d'une partie particulière de l'image d'intérêt afin, par exemple, d'identifier des polypes, des kystes ou d'autres caractéristiques anormales de l'organe visualisé; les ensembles de données d'imagerie étant obtenus au moyen de balayages bidimensionnels classiques de l'objet dans une orientation à la fois sur le dos et sur le ventre, et la correspondance entre les ensembles de données respectifs déterminée, ce qui permet de passer d'une orientation de visualisation à une autre tout en restant au même emplacement virtuel à l'intérieur de l'organe.
