A method for quickly and accurately identifying a digital file (102), specifically one that represents an audio file. The identification can be used for tracking royalty payments to copyright owners. A database stores features of various audio files and a globally unique identifier (GUID) for each file. Advantageously, the method allows a database to be updated in the case of a new audio file by storing its features and generating a new unique identifier for the new file. The file is sampled to generate a fingerprint (106) that is used to determine if the file matched a file stored in the database (108). Advantageously, any label used for the work is automatically updated if it appears to be in error.
La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant une identification rapide et fiable d'un fichier numérique, notamment celui qui représente un fichier audio (102). L'identification peut être utilisée pour localiser des paiements des droits d'auteurs aux détenteurs d'un droit d'auteur. Une base de données mémorise des caractéristiques de divers fichiers audio et un identifiant unique à l'échelle mondiale (GUID) pour chaque fichier. De manière avantageuse, le procédé permet la mise à jour d'une base de données dans le cas d'un nouveau fichier en mémorisant ses caractéristiques et en créant un nouveau identifiant unique pour le nouveau fichier. On échantillonne le fichier pour générer une empreinte (106) qui est utilisée pour déterminer si le fichier correspond à un fichier mémorisé dans la base de données (108). De manière avantageuse, toute étiquette utilisée pour le travail est automatiquement mise à jour si elle apparaît être erronée.
