A process for producing ammonia and sulfuric acid from a stream comprising ammonium sulfate is provided. The process comprises the steps of heating the stream to produce ammonia and a decomposition product comprising one or more than one of a bisulfate salt, a pyrosulfate salt, or a combination thereof. The ammonia produced is recovered, and water is added to the decomposition product to produce a stream comprising the decomposition product. The stream comprising the decomposition product is processed by acid retardation to obtain a sulfuric acid stream and a stream comprising one or more than one sulfate salt.

L'invention concerne un procédé de production d'ammoniac et d'acide sulfurique à partir d'un flux renfermant du sulfate d'ammonium. Le procédé consiste: à chauffer le flux pour obtenir de l'ammoniac ainsi qu'un produit de décomposition contenant du sel de bisulfate et/ou du sel de pyrosulfate, ou une association des deux sels; à récupérer l'ammoniac obtenu; à ajouter de l'eau au produit de décomposition pour former un flux contenant le produit de décomposition; et enfin, à traiter le flux contenant le produit de décomposition par rétention d'acide pour obtenir un flux d'acide sulfurique et un flux contenant au moins un sel de sulfate.
