ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION The rate at which adsorbed materials are released from a small sample of a finely divided adsorbing material such as a polymeric adsorbent or ion exchange resin may be determined by confining the sample in a broad, thin configuration between a pair of porous supports, passing an eluting liquid through the porous supports and the sample to elute the adsorbed material, and detecting the amount of adsorbed material which has eluted into the eluting liquid. The accuracy of this measurement is significantly improved where the volume through which the eluting liquid travels from the second porous support to the detector is minimized.
