Page # 1 ABSTRACT When routinely flushing a hydrant or using water from a fire hydrant for hydraulic cleaning of a sanitary or storm sewer there is a need to control the dynamic water pressures in the hose and to maintain an air gap between the potable water supply (fire hydrant) and the non-potable receiving water (sanitary or storm sewer system). In this invention a directional flow tube with a universal fire hose coupling attachment is placed into a trailer hitch receiver of a truck. The directional flow tube has a 50mm square steel tubing welded to it (flow tube support) and is used to connect the directional flow tube to the truck. When the hose is attached to the flow tube and the flow tube support is placed in the trailer hitch of the truck the dynamic pressures of the water flow is controlled by the weight of the truck. The directional flow tube also maintains a physical air gap between the potable water supply and non-potable receiving water. the directional flow tube can be constructed for any hydrant hose size.
