Rolling-element bearing components made from high quality steel are subjected to ion nitriding in a plasma as a final step in the manufacturing process to produce a layer with a hardness around 800-1200 HV with a depth no more than 150 µm. By controlling the conditions no friable surface layer is created and no further steps need to be performed on the component.

La présente invention concerne des composants pour roulements à rouleaux réalisés dans un acier de haute qualité qui, à l'étape finale du processus de fabrication, sont soumis à une nitruration ionique au plasma de manière à présenter une couche présentant une dureté située entre 800 et 1200 HV pour une épaisseur de 150 µm maximum. En surveillant les conditions dans lesquelles s'effectue la nitruration, on évite la formation d'une couche superficielle friable et on obtient un composant qui ne doit plus subir aucun traitement ultérieur.
