Apparatus and method for stretching and mounting films. An apparatus for stretching films over a flat surface utilizing a vacuum applied to the film surface near the periphery of the film to be stretched is described. Fragile films may be stretched by the present apparatus by attaching such films near their outer edges to a film which is stretched by the apparatus.
