The present invention discloses an interaction between p27(Kip1) and FKBP-12 and the formation of a p27(Kip1).FKBP-12 complex, or of the derivatives, fragments, analogs and homologs thereof, that were identified using a modified, improved yeast two hybrid assay system. Methodologies of screening these aforementioned complexes for efficacy in treating and/or preventing various diseases and disorders, particularly hyperproliferative disorders, including, but not limited to, cancer, neurodegenerative disease, autoimmune disease, and the like, are also disclosed herein.
