ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for producing crystalline microballoons, which comprises atomizing a solution or dispersion having an inorganic material or its precursor dissolved or dispersed in a liquid medium, to form droplets of the solution or dispersion, supplying the droplets into a high temperature atmosphere adjusted so that the liquid medium would rapidly evaporate and the inorganic material or its precursor would sinter or fuse to form crystalline microballoons of the inorganic material, and recovering the microballoons thereby formed.
