A planar optical platform for generating a Raman signal from a foreign object comprises an input region and an output region, for receiving and extracting optical radiation, optically coupled to a plasmonic band structure region. The plasmonic band structure region comprises a layer of a first material, having a first refractive index, patterned with an array of sub-regions of a second material, having a second refractive index, wherein a side-wall of each sub- region is coated with a metallodielectric layer. The array of sub-regions gives rise to a plasmonic band structure and, in use, each sub-region confines a plasmon resonance excited by optical radiation coupled into the plasmonic band structure region, which gives rise to a Raman signal from a foreign object placed proximate the plasmonic band structure region. The platform may be incorporated into a spectroscopic measurement system and is particularly useful for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy of analyte molecules.
L~invention concerne une plate-forme optique plane permettant de générer un signal de Raman à partir d~un objet étranger comprenant une région d~entrée et une région de sortie, pour recevoir et extraire une radiation optique, couplées optiquement à une région de structure de bande de plasmon. La région de structure de bande de plasmon comprend une couche d'un premier matériau, ayant un premier indice de réfraction, mise en motifs avec une matrice de régions auxiliaires d~un second matériau, ayant un second indice de réfraction, où une paroi latérale de chaque région auxiliaire est revêtue d~une couche métallodiélectrique. La matrice de régions auxiliaires produit une structure de bande de plasmon et, en service, chaque région auxiliaire confine une résonance de plasmon excitée par radiation optique couplée dans la région de structure de bande de plasmon, produisant un signal de Raman provenant d~un objet étranger placé près de la région de structure de bande de plasmon. La plate-forme peut être intégrée à un système de mesure spectroscopique et sert particulièrement à une spectroscopie de Raman améliorée en surface de molécules d~analyte.
