Methods and compositions are disclosed for confirming and quantifying the presence of a specific kind of microorganism in a sample of material. Hybridization and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques are applied to identify the presence of the specific microorganism in cultures grown in most probable number and serial dilution methods, after calibration of the techniques using blank and control samples. For example, samples of animal feed can be cultured and analyzed to determine the quantity of specific probiotic microorganisms present in the feed.

L'invention concerne des méthodes et des compositions permettant de confirmer et de quantifier la présente d'un type spécifique de micro-organisme dans un échantillon de matière. Les techniques d'hybridation et de réaction en chaîne de la polymérase (PCR) sont appliquées afin d'identifier la présence du micro-organisme spécifique dans des cultures élaborées avec les méthodes les plus probables de dilution en série et en nombre, après étalonnage des techniques au moyen d'échantillons témoins et de contrôle. Par exemple, des échantillons d'aliments pour animaux peuvent être cultivés et analysés de façon à déterminer la quantité de micro-organismes probiotiques spécifiques présents dans les aliments.
