The aim of the invention is to provide a spacer with sufficient longitudinal stiffness and straigthness without resulting in excessively raised heat transfer or greatly increased production costs. To this end the invention provides for the ratio of leg (20, 22) thickness to side wall (16) thickness to be 0.8 or less and/or for thermal resistance to be greater in the legs (20, 22) than in the side walls (16).
