The present invention relates to a method of rapidly determining the gender of fowl. The present invention further relates to a new breed of turkey wherein the down is colored in a gender specific manner and wherein the color fades to white by the time the turkey reaches adulthood. The invention also provides isolated DNA encoding Gender-specific Fading Down proteins.

Elle a aussi trait à une nouvelle race de dindon caractérisée par la coloration du duvet en fonction du sexe et par la disparition de cette couleur chez le dindon parvenu à l'âge adulte, le duvet étant alors devenu blanc. L'invention dévoile aussi l'ADN codant pour les protéines responsables de la disparition de la couleur spécifique au sexe.
