There is provided an antimicrobial composition for combatting infections. The material is a controlled release glass having two or more agents selected from the group consisting of metals, selenium and boron. Preferably the agents are selected from the group consisting of copper, silver, magnesium, zinc, cerium, manganese bismuth, selenium and boron. The combinations of copper and silver and of copper and zinc are particularly preferred and exhibit synergistic activity. The antimicrobial composition is effective against infections due to Proteus spp.

Cette invention concerne une composition antimicrobienne permettant de combattre des infections. Ladite composition comporte un verre à libération contrôlée qui contient au moins deux agents sélectionnés dans un groupe constitués de métaux, de sélénium et de bore. De préférence, on choisit ces agents dans le groupe constitué du cuivre, de l'argent, du magnésium, du zinc, du cérium, du manganèse, du bismuth, du sélénium et du bore. On préfère tout particulièrement utiliser des combinaisons de cuivre et d'argent d'une part, et de cuivre et de zinc, d'autre part, car elles présentent une activité synergique. Cette composition antimicrobienne est efficace pour lutter contre les infections dues au Proteus spp.
