A method and system for modeling light in time and space are provided. The method and system of the present disclosure collect light readings, e.g., on a motion picture set, at different positions and times (302, 304, 306) to build a light model to be used for visual effects (VFX) compositing (308). The light model represents the light distribution across space and/or time for a predetermined physical space. Using the light model, the lighting can then be predicted or interpolated at intermediate or other positions and/or times for which no specific light readings were obtained (314). The light models can be used for rendering objects (e.g., natural or CG elements) in a scene as if they were in that space.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un système de modélisation temporelle et spatiale de la lumière. Le procédé et le système consistent à effectuer des mesures de la lumière, par ex. sur un plateau de cinéma, à différentes positions et à différents instants (302, 304, 306) en vue de construire un modèle de la lumière destiné à être utilisé pour la composition (308) d'effets visuels (VFX). Le modèle de la lumière représente la distribution de la lumière dans l'espace et/ou le temps pour un espace physique prédéterminé. Le modèle de la lumière permet d'estimer ou d'interpoler l'éclairage à des positions et/ou des instants intermédiaires ou autres pour lesquels aucune mesure particulière de la lumière n'a été effectuée (314). Le modèle de la lumière peut être utilisé pour réaliser un rendu d'objets (par ex. d'éléments naturels ou créés par ordinateur) dans une scène comme s'ils occupaient cet espace.
