Long-term storage of infective third stage juveniles of nematodes belonging to the genera Steinernema or Heterorhabditis is effected by mixing together an aqueous cream of the nematodes and particles of a highly water-absorptive material. The water present in the mixture is such that the mixture, after equilibrating, has a water activity in the range of from 0.80 to 0.995 (prefer- ably 0.95 to 0.99). The preferred absorbent material is anhydrous polyacrylamide gel in the form of particles having an average mass of 0.01 gm. For optimal survival of the nematodes, the equilibrated mixture should be stored at a temperature in the range of from 1 °C to 30 °C, in an atmosphere which maintains the water activity of the mixture in the range of from 0.80 to 0.995.
