A clamping mechanism (12) includes a male portion (14) and a female portion (16) with cammed or eccentrical side surfaces co-operating with the male portion (14) by relative rotation of the two portions. The male portion (14) has a forward-ly extending locking protrusion (36), and an alignment protrusion (40) extending forwardly of the locking protrusion (36). A rear of the female portion has a forwardly extending locking bore and an alignment bore extending forwardly from a front end of the locking bore. The locking bore has an insertion bore portion which merges with an eccentric gripping bore portion. In a clamped position, the alignment protrusion (40) abuts the alignment bore and the locking protrusion (36) abuts the gripping bore portion along a gripping angular extension, thereby forming a circumferential interference fit.
